He is the first American player at all levels to score a hat trick in the World Cup.The USA is expected to face England or Japan in the quarter finals on Saturday, October 21 in Goa, India.“My future goal is to make it into the first team, do a couple of sessions with them and hopefully by the end of the year, make my debut,” Timothy told the BBC.Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)last_img read more

Uddhav Thackeray faces acid test as he charts new course for Shiv Sena

first_imgWith the Maharashtra governor inviting the Shiv Sena to stake claim, Party chief Uddhav Thackeray now faces the biggest test of his political life to form a Sena-led government in the State, if the Congress and the NCP decide to support him. Mr. Thackeray, 59, a regional leader, stood up and held his ground against a national party (BJP) over a tussle for sharing power, a political analyst said on condition of anonymity. Now, he will have to prove his credentials as a leader who can navigate a new political path with parties like the Congress and the NCP, which are ideologically different, he said. “The tie-up will be with a national party and it remains to be seen how he will convince [Congress president] Sonia Gandhi to support him. Will he soften the fiery Hindutva stand, which the Shiv Sena espouses, or will that be an obstacle, the coming days will tell,” the analyst said. Another challenge for Mr. Thackeray will be whether to accept the post of Chief Minister, though there has been a clamour from some segments to project first time MLA and his son Aaditya as the Party’s Chief Ministerial face. “There could be a crisis in the Party if someone else is made (CM). There could be differences if another leader is appointed the Chief Minister,” the analyst said. While Mr. Thackeray has shown political sagacity and maturity, the BJP will not sit quiet and may try to topple a Sena-led government, he claimed. “Uddhav will have to keep his flock of MLAs together,” he said. Twenty years ago, Mr. Thackeray was seen as a reluctant politician, living a cosy life with his wife Rashmi and sons Aaditya and Tejas. The Sena leader, for whom photography is a passion, had set up an advertising agency called ‘Chaurang’. Like Rajiv Gandhi, who started out in politics by helping his mother Indira Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray began assisting his father Bal Thackeray at a time when the firebrand Sena patriarch was aging and the party’s sphere was expanding, the analyst said. Amid new developments in the State’s political arena after the recent Assembly polls, Mr. Thackeray’s ability to lead his Party with its traditional street-fighter aggression would now face an acid test, he added.last_img read more

HC impleads paraolympic gold medallist as respondent in plea

first_imgChennai, Oct 11 (PTI) The Madras High Court today impleaded gold medal winning Indian paraolympic high jumper Mariyappan Thangavelu as a respondent in a plea seeking police protection alleging harassment and threat from him.Justice M S Ramesh directed the paraolympic to be included as a respondent after hearing a petition by M Muniyammal, who sought police protection for her and her family following alleged harassment from the athlete and his associates. According to the Salem-based petitioner, after Mariyappan and his associates assaulted her son M Satish Kumar, he was found dead near a railway track in the district in June. The alleged assault happened after her 19-year old son accidentally rammed his two-wheeler into Mariyappans car, which damaged its door-handle and it led to a quarrel. Muniyammals son lost control of his motorcycle due to bad road condition and obstruction, and fell over the car, she contended. However, Mariyappan and his friends thrashed Satish and when he escaped and reached home, they again attacked him brutally, she claimed. When Mariyappan and his associates tried to snatch Satishs mobile phone, her son ran and he did not return home. Satish was later found dead near the railway track in the vicinity of the village, she said. Muniyammal sought police protection, alleging that Mariappan, two of his associates and unidentified “henchmen” continuously harassed her and family and threatened them with dire consequences. Police did not act on her complaint against Mariyappan since he was a celebrity sports man, she claimed. The judge posted the matter for further hearing to October 24. Twitters new dark mode gives you a darker choice

first_imgTwitter’s dark mode has now an option to turn your app’s background black. Twitter Twitter users have new options when it comes to how dark they want to make the app’s background. The social media company said Thursday it’s releasing a new dark mode for its iPhone app that turns the background black instead of blue-gray.Turning on dark mode not only gives your eyes a break from bright light, but can help save your phone’s battery life. Twitter first introduced a setting in 2016 to make it more comfortable to tweet in low light. But some people complained that Twitter’s dark mode wasn’t dark enough because it was only blue-gray.Now Twitter users have three choices: Dim, Lights Out and Automatic Dark Mode.Dim will turn your Twitter app’s background to the blue-gray color that the company introduced in 2016. Lights Out will turn the background to black and emits no light. Then there’s Automatic Dark Mode, which will automatically turn on the dark mode that you choose when the sun sets.Users can turn on Twitter’s dark mode by going to their account’s settings and clicking on “Display and sound.” Share your voice Post a comment Tags “Giving more people options to personalize their experience on Twitter based on what makes them most comfortable is what the latest update to Dark Mode is all about,” said Bryan Haggerty, Twitter’s senior design manager in a statement.   Mobile Tech Industry 0 It was dark.
