Two new publishing surveys predict rapid revenue growth for mobile apps in the next few years, although one shows most publishers rejecting the switch to an all-digital format. In the second annual “Going Mobile” survey from the Audit Bureau of Circulations and ABC Interactive, 65 percent of respondents say they believe digital delivery is important to their strategic future, up from 55 percent last year. Thirty-seven percent say they expect mobile to significantly impact their revenue in just two years. However, 78 percent of respondents disagreed that their publications would be delivered in digital-only format within the next five years. While Apple is listed as the number one e-reader manufacturer in the ABC survey, just 19 percent of respondents say they are satisfied with Apple’s app business model, while 11 percent say they are satisfied with the analytics and subscriber information they receive from Apple. Meanwhile, a report from mobile ad network Millennial Media, e-media conference producer DIGIDAY and financial services company Stifel Nicolaus, found that 31 percent of publishers surveyed expect their applications to increase 100 percent or more in 2011, with another 17 percent expecting an increase of 50 percent or more. (The Millennial Media report also says that just 6.7 percent of developers use an internal sales force to monetize their applications, while 83 percent use a third party, such as an ad network.)

-A young man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house over conjugal dispute at Itta village in Manirampur upazila on Saturday afternoon.Family sources said Sanjit Das Babu, 30, son of Dhiren Das, a resident of Itta village, had been at a conjugal feud with his wife. Sanjit used to work at Manirampur upazila post office.Following the dispute, his wife has recently left the house and gone to her father’s house. On Saturday, as Sanjit didn’t wake up after 12:00 pm despite making repeated calls by the family members, the house inmates entered his room breaking the door only to find Sanjib hanging with the ceiling. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy, said sub-inspector Ruksana of Manirampur police station, adding that an unnatural death case was filed in this connection.
. In a “tit-for-tat” operation, five highly-trained Indian army commandos went some 300 meters across the line of control (LoC) and killed at least three Pakistani soldiers, two days after four Indian Army men, including a Major, were shot dead in a surprise attack by Pakistan, sources said on Tuesday.Defence sources called it a “tactical retaliatory strike”, decided at a local level by the brigade commander. But the sources did not name the battalion that carried out the operation.”It was a short-distance and short-duration operation unlike the surgical strike (last year),” said a defence official, who did not want to be named. The sources said four to five Ghatak Commandos were involved in the operation. Ghatak Commandos are drawn from infantry and trained to carry out covert special operations.”It was a tit-for-tat action… Whatever Pakistan does to us, we will do the same,” the official said, warning that more such operations would be conducted if Pakistani forces continue targeting Indian troops. The sources said the action was taken around 6 p.m. on Monday after some Pakistani military personnel tried to cross over apparently to plant IEDs on the Indian side of the border. They said Pakistani forces belonging to 59 Baloch Regiment had set up a temporary post close to the LoC in Rukh Chakri sector of Rawalakot and “at least three Pakistani soldiers were killed while one was injured”. They said it was possible that the casualty figure may be higher. The incident took place along the LoC in Pooch. The sources, however, didn’t term the action a surgical strike — like the one conducted on 29 September, 2016, when Indian army commandos crossed the Line of Control (LoC) to target terror launch pads inside Pakistan-controlled territory, killing dozens of terrorists and their sympathisers.Since the 2016 Surgical Strike, this is the first publicised incident of Indian soldiers crossing the LoC, though sources said from time to time Indian troops do cross the de facto border to target Pakistani forces.Pakistan army confirmed the death of three soldiers in an “unprovoked heavy cross-border shelling by Indian forces” at Rukh Chakri sector. The incident took place two days after four Indian soldiers, who were part of a patrol party, were killed by Pakistan troops in heavy cross-border targeted firing in the Rajouri sector. On Sunday, two Pakistani snipers, who were trying to target Indian soldiers on the LoC, were killed in Indian firing on the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts. The Monday deaths take the Pakistani casualty toll to five in two days.India claims that Pakistan violated the 2003 ceasefire accord along the LoC between the two countries at least 820 times this year.
Kim Jong-UnKim Jong-Un on Monday gave the first indication that North Korea could participate in next month’s Winter Olympics in the South, despite tensions over Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons programme.”I sincerely hope the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics will be staged successfully,” said Kim, the North Korean leader, in his new year’s address to the nation.”We are willing to take necessary measures including to dispatch our delegation.”For this purpose, authorities of the North and South would be able to meet in the near future,” he said.Lee Hee-Beom, the head of the Pyeongchang Olympic Organising Committee welcomed Kim’s comments.”We actively welcome the North’s suggestion that it is willing to engage in talks for the participation in the Olympics”, Lee told AFP.”We’ve been preparing for the Olympics on the assumption that the North will eventually take part in the games”, he said, adding that all athletes, including North Koreans, would feel at home during their stay in Pyeongchang.- ‘Peace Olympics’ -He said relevant government authorities of the two Koreas should hold talks to discuss details although there was no immediate response from the South’s government.Seoul and organisers have billed the Winter Games which begin on 9 February as a “peace Olympics” and have been keen for the North to take part. Two North Korean athletes — pairs figure skaters Ryom Tae-Ok and Kim Ju-Sik — have qualified for the Games but the North Korean Olympic Committee missed an October 30 deadline to confirm to the International Skating Union that they would participate. The pair could still compete if given an invitation by the International Olympic Committee. The Winter Olympic main venues are just 80 kilometres (50 miles) from the heavily fortified border with the North and the build-up to the event has been overshadowed by tensions running high over the Pyongyang’s escalating nuclear and missile tests.Kim said the Olympics would “serve as a good chance to display our Korean people’s grace toward the world.””The year 2018 is a significant year for both the North and the South, with the North marking the 70th anniversary of its birth and the South hosting the Winter Olympics.”- ‘Unstable state’ -Kim did strike one note of caution. “The sharp military tension between the North and the South must be eased and a peaceful atmosphere should be in place,” he said.”As long as an unstable state which is neither a war nor peace continues, the North and the South cannot guarantee their scheduled events (including the Olympics) will be successfully staged, sit down for talks or move forward for reunification.”Professor Kim Hyun-Wook at the Korea National Diplomatic Academy said the North was trying to use the Olympics to improve ties with the South while tensions with the US show no signs of abating.”The US will find it awkward to put brakes on inter-Korean dialogue focused on Pyeongchang,” he said.North Korea’s past participation in sporting events in the South has largely depended on the political and military situation, though they did send a full team to the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, near Seoul.”It is quite noteworthy that the North’s leader himself says the North is willing to participate in Pyeongchang,” Professor Yang Moo-Jin of the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul told AFP. “The chances of the North coming to the Olympics now seem to be more than 80 percent.”North and South Korea have been divided by a demilitarised zone since the end of the 1950-53 Korean war.South Korean president Moon Jae-In last month proposed delaying Seoul’s annual joint military exercises with the US until after the Games. The Key Resolve and Foal Eagle drills usually start in late February or early March and run until the end of April, usually contributing to a spike in tensions, with Pyongyang condemning the exercises as rehearsals for invasion.
