Throwback When Anil Ambani broke up with Tina Munim under family pressure

first_imgThe love story of former Bollywood actress Tina Munim and business tycoon Anil Ambani well could have been a plot of some Bollywood movie. Though the couple went through a lot of rough patches at the beginning of their relationship, once they got married, there was no looking back for the two. And three decades later, they have made our belief in love conquers all, even more, stronger. In a freewheeling chat with Simi Garewal, Tina Ambani and Anil Ambani had bared their souls out on their love story and how they reached the decision to marry. Anil and Tina met for the first time at a party where Anil was taken aback by seeing her in a black saree as it was quite unconventional for anyone to turn up for a wedding wearing black. Both were introduced to each other and Anil didn’t waste time and immediately asked her out. Tina, who was not looking out for a relationship then, politely turned him down. When many years later, they again met, Tina was left in awe of his personality and simplicity. Anil too was impressed by her beauty and genuineness. The duo started meeting more often and love-struck. However, when Anil’s family got the whiff of it, they weren’t too fond of the match. Anil’s family had certain notions about people from the film industry and they pressurised the two to stop seeing each other.Anil being an obedient son agreed and the duo called it off for some time. But, in their hearts, they were still together. Though the duo didn’t speak for four years, they never tried to get attached to anyone else. Meanwhile, Anil kept refusing all the proposals which were coming his way and finally managed to persuade his family to accept Tina into the family.last_img read more

If things go as planned, the company will start manufacturing limited units of iPhones in April 2017, and start full-fledged production by the end of next year, reported The Times of India. Also read: Apple iPhone 8 to have a dual SIM? Currently, around 12.5 percent of import tax is levied on each iPhone sold in India. But the growth in iPhone sales in the recent months has been quite healthy, as rival Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 was banned in India after instances of the phone exploding in different parts of the world were reported. If iPhone is manufactured locally, Apple will get tax breaks and pass on the benefits to the people by reducing the cost of the devices. Time seems ripe for Apple to start making phones in India, touted as the world’s fastest growing smartphone market. It is poised to overtake US as second biggest mobile business market next year.Watch this space for more news on Apple products.last_img read more

Stubborn Turnbull seeks second leadership vote

first_imgAustralian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull reacts during a media conference at Parliament House in Canberra, Australia, 23 August 2018. Photo: ReutersAustralian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull stubbornly clung to power on Thursday as senior ministers deserted him, saying he would hold a second leadership vote on Friday only if he received a letter signed by the majority of the ruling Liberal party.Turnbull narrowly won a leadership vote on Tuesday against former home affairs minister Peter Dutton. Dutton and senior ministers on Thursday called for a second ballot.Key Turnbull supporter finance minister Mathias Cormann said Turnbull no longer had majority party support and that Dutton was now the best person to lead the conservative government to the next election, due by May 2019.Several ministers have tendered their resignation. The leadership crisis saw the government adjourn parliament on Thursday until September.Turnbull said if he received a letter requesting a fresh vote with the signatures of 43 Liberal Party lawmakers, he would call a party meeting for midday Friday (0200 GMT). If a leadership spill motion was then passed, he would not stand in the vote.Australian media reported on Thursday that Treasurer Scott Morrison would be a surprise challenger for the top job.Morrison has been a Turnbull supporter, but has reportedly long held ambitions on the prime ministership.Whoever emerges as Australia’s next prime minister, they will become the country’s sixth prime minister in less than a decade. None of those, which includes two stints for Labor leader Kevin Rudd, have served a full term in office.”Australians will be rightly appalled by what they are witnessing in their parliament,” Turnbull told reporters in Canberra. The political revolving door has angered and frustrated voters and the business sector. The political uncertainty clouded the outlook for investors who punished the Australian dollar, sending it 0.9 percent lower to $0.7283. The Aussie was the worst performing major currency on Thursday.Australian shares slipped 0.2 percent.”For everybody in the country what is happening in Canberra is disappointing and frustrating. Business likes certainty and confidence in what happens in the future. Anytime we see uncertainty like what is happening in Canberra it is not helpful,” said Qantas CEO Alan Joyce.Liberal SplitTurnbull said the leadership crisis was an “internal insurgency” to move the Liberal party to the far right.”A minority in the party room, supported by others outside the parliament, has sought to bully, intimidate others into making this change of leadership,” he said.”It’s been described by many people…as a form of madness.Turnbull sort to raise doubts over Dutton’s ability to continue sitting in parliament, with reports he has financial interests in daycare centres which receive government funding.Australia’s constitution bans lawmakers from receiving commonwealth money.Turnbull said he asked Australia’s most senior legal officer to provide advice on Dutton’s eligibility on Friday morning.”I cannot underline too much how important it is that anyone who seeks to be prime minister of Australia is eligible to be a member of parliament,” said Turnbull.Adding pressure on rebel lawmakers, Turnbull said he would resign from parliament if he loses the leadership, threatening the government’s one-seat majority.Turnbull came to power in a party-room coup in September 2015. A social liberal and multi-millionaire former merchant banker, Turnbull has struggled to appeal to conservative voters and only narrowly won an election in 2016.The ruling Liberal-National coalition government has consistently trailed the opposition Labor party in opinion polls, but Turnbull has remained the voters’ preferred prime minister over Labor leader Bill Shorten.Shorten said the “cannibalistic behaviour” over the Liberal leadership was eating the government alive. “Australia no longer has a functioning government,” he told parliament.last_img read more

Shelly Bell is a OneStop Entrepreneurial Force of Nature

She’s also the founder of Black Girl Ventures, MsPrint USA, and the Made By A Black Woman clothing line featured in Essence Magazine.Shelly Bell assists Black women entrepreneurs, through providing assets with her business, Black Girl Ventures. (Courtesy Photo)Bell became a mother at 17. She went on to pursue a computer science degree at North Carolina A&T and graduated in four years. After college, she had another child and became a teacher. After working in education for a bit and building up her first successful venture, Bell split with her  business partner to go back to the corporate world but never lost sight of doing it alone as a business owner. After stints working at government agencies and a pay cut to go back into teaching, Bell finally made the leap to found Seven City Art Society, an arts based organization that would eventually turn into Made By a Black Woman.Bell’s success with the Made By a Black Woman line, recently refreshed with “Black Panther” #WakandaForever apparel, led the enterprising founder to establish MsPrint USA, a custom apparel and merchandise print shop dedicated to, not just empowering women entrepreneurs, but also printing on U.S. soil rather than outsourcing to foreign economies. These past entrepreneurial achievements led to Bell’s most recent pursuit with Black Girl Ventures formerly known as Black Girl Vision (BGV). BGV works to create assets- social and financial capital for Black Women entrepreneurs- to combat the statistic that African American women receive less than one percent of venture capital by building a community that nurtures and funds their ideas. The Boss Up event is essentially crowd funding meets pitch competition, meets poetry slam, combined with a “Vision Fund.” The vision fund is created with money taken at the door by participants and fans with the winning pitch taking home that event’s proceeds for seed funding. BGV also sweetens the pot by providing the winner with free legal and accounting consultation as well as customer merch and apparel from MsPrint USA for her business.Bell started her pitch competitions with 30 women in a house in Southeast after the need for a founder’s community and a way to empower and encourage other black female entrepreneurs. The unique format fits Bell’s background as a nationally recognized performance poet and community organizer to create a one-of-a-kind experience that includes call and response elements and poem at every event. This creates an energy that resonates with Black Girl Ventures’ core demographic.“It has to be serious enough for us to pay attention and listen to Black women’s stories but also light, fun and engaging enough for us to stay engaged after we leave those rooms,” she said.Black Girl Venture recently hosted a pitch competition at the WE DC stage of South By South West in Austin, sponsored by Washington DC Economic Partnership, but D.C. residents won’t have to book a ticket to join the Boss Up movement. BGV will be hosting its next pitch competition here in DC at WeWork Navy Yard March 29th at 6pm.
